Who we are
The Better Behavior Foundation (“BBF,” “we,” “us”) is an independent climate research nonprofit. This policy covers this website and the solar-soiling tools and outreach we run.
What we collect
When you contact us. If you use our contact form or email us, we receive the name, email address, organization, and message you choose to send. Our contact form is delivered by a third-party form service (FormSubmit), which processes the submission and forwards it to our inbox.
Automatically. Our site is served as static files by our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages). Like any web host, Cloudflare may log standard request data such as IP address and browser type for security and reliability. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. Our host may collect privacy-friendly, cookieless, aggregate traffic statistics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics) that do not identify individual visitors.
In our solar tools. The public map identifies rooftop solar arrays from aerial and satellite imagery within a Santa Cruz pilot area and shows array outlines with modeled soiling scores only. It does not publish names, street addresses, parcel numbers, or owner information. Address searches you type into the map are sent to a public geocoding service (OpenStreetMap Nominatim) to place a pin; we do not store them.
Our postal outreach
For our pilot mailing, we selected properties using publicly available county solar-permit and parcel records and addressed postcards to those properties. If you received a postcard and would like us to remove your address from future outreach, email betterbehaviorfoundation@gmail.com and we will honor the request.
How we use information
We use the information we receive to:
- respond to your inquiry and follow up if you ask us to;
- provide the consulting or panel-cleaning coordination you request;
- operate, secure, and improve our research and tools.
We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers that process data on our behalf: our form-delivery service (FormSubmit), our host and CDN (Cloudflare), our email provider, and our postal-mail vendor (Lob) for the outreach described above. Each processes information only to provide its service to us.
Retention & security
We keep inquiry emails only as long as needed to respond and maintain our records, then delete them on request. We serve the site over HTTPS and apply standard security headers, but no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Your choices
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the information you have sent us, or to remove your address from outreach, by emailing betterbehaviorfoundation@gmail.com. California residents may make requests regarding their personal information; we honor reasonable requests in good faith regardless of whether they are strictly required of a nonprofit.
Children
Our site and tools are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes & contact
We may update this policy; the effective date above will change when we do. Questions? Email betterbehaviorfoundation@gmail.com.
