Traveler Interest in Emissions-Aware Flight Ranking

Better Behavior Foundation · 2026

74.7%
wanted an option to include emissions in flight ranking

Preliminary result. This simulated booking study asked whether travelers want an option to let emissions influence how flight options are ranked.

What we tested

The 150 completed responses included a direct choice between a platform that offers emissions-aware ranking and a baseline platform. The study measures preference for the product feature in a simulated booking context.

What we found

  • 112 of 150 participants (74.7%) chose the platform that offered emissions-aware ranking.

The supplied export records a stated-preference finding. A randomized flight-selection comparison will measure the feature's effect on lower-emission flight choice.

What this means for design

An emissions-weighting control can give travelers a practical way to act on their climate preferences while keeping price, schedule, and other tradeoffs visible. The next experiment should randomize the control, compare an optional setting with a carefully tested default, and measure completed bookings and actual flight selection.

Evidence limits

This simulated-choice study captures feature preference. A live booking study can measure ticket conversion, repeat use, airline behavior, and actual flight selection.
